George Hardy

I do not know the artist of the above artwork. It was e-mailed to me by a scale modeler that though I could use it.

I do not like to display artwork from others that I can not give proper credit. If anyone knows the artist, please put us in touch with each other so I can get his permission to use the artwork as well as giving proper credit to them.  It is a great work of art. Thank you.

99th Fighter Squadron pilot George Hardy's P-51D "A3 - 3" was named "Tall in the Saddle".

This artwork is from the Osprey 332nd Fighter Squadron book. I will paint my own "Tall in the Saddle" as soon as possible and delete the image above.

I just wanted everyone to visually see the aircraft that Hardy flew.

George Hardy came from Philadelphia , Pennsylvania His first assignment to combat was to Italy. George came late to the war only flying 21 missions. Many of his missions were in the above P-51D named "Tall in the Saddle." One artwork above has a familiar Vargas pin-up girl and the one from the Osprey book does not show the Vargas artwork. Also the blue ban around the nose is solid on one and checker-board blue/white on the other. I will find out which is correct if not both are in fact correct.

Hardy remained in the Army Air Corp after the war which eventually became the Air Force. When the Korean War broke out he was transferred to Korea where he flew 45 missions in B-29s. During the Viet Nam war George flew 70 missions in A-119K gun ships. He eventually retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Much more will follow so stay tuned.
